Booming Water Lily Fashion in the Philippines

While water lily otherwise known as water hyacinth is blamed for the unexpected flood in Cotabato, Philippines, other parts of the country have produced creative and beautiful fashion from the water lily strips.

A community of women, out - of - school youth, senior citizens innovate from the dried stalks of water hyacinths and create various handicrafts like sandals, purses, wallets, baskets and more.

And as Filipino, I can only be prouder because these handcrafts are now exported and appreciated globally. This goes to show that Filipinos are simply ingenuous and resourceful in spite of scarce resources.
